Lord, Why? Why All This?

There are those who may ask, "O Lord, why? Why all this?" It is the perennial question that the greatest minds have labored over, without being able to come up with an explanation. The problem of evil in general and of natural calamities in particular remains a dense mystery, utterly senseless to the human intellect. The only support upon which man can rely is the thought that God is never indifferent to the suffering of his children, but involved himself dramatically in the person of his only Son, Jesus Christ, who was subject to "our weaknesses, … who has similarly been tested in every way" (Heb 4:15).
